The Iltis splitting axe is built specifically for splitting. The wedge-shaped head has sturdy cheeks, is nearly 2" thick at the eye, and weighs about 6 lb. Ash handle.
The felling axe is designed for felling, limbing and notching. The slim profile design (2" back of the face, the blade is still only 1/4" thick) gives excellent penetration by minimizing wedging action. The precise forging and tempering result in steel that rings like a bell. 6" wide at the face, the head is 7-3/4" deep and weighs 2-1/2 lb. Hickory handle.
The double-bit Iltis is used in competitions or by those who prefer the balance and feel of a double-bit axe. 10" long, 2-1/4 lb head. Each face is 5-1/4" wide. Hickory handle.
