The Wildflowers of America was first published in 1894, followed by The Wildflowers of Canada in 1908. They were remarkable books for their day, featuring four-color illustrations throughout their 312 pages. Theselarge-format books are 11" x 8-1/4"and are laid out with the description of the flowers on the page facing the illustrations (included is one illustration by artist Maud Humphrey, the mother of screen legend Humphrey Bogart).
The 288 plates in each book are numbered and are easily referenced by an index at the back listing both common and Latin names. There is a small amount of general text but the emphasis is on text specific to each flower, all written in the charming style of the day.
Smyth-sewn softcover. The Wildflowers of Canada was reprinted in 2001 as part of our Classic Reprint Series; The Wildflowers of America was reprinted in 2002.
