Professional arborists use this support system because of its special guying tape and the way it is secured to the tree. The supple tape is 3/4" wide polypropylene webbing, flat with rounded edges to provide a wide, smooth bearing surface that won't abrade or cut young bark, and ties and unties easily. The tape loops around the trunk (above the lowest branch to prevent slipping) and secures using a loose slipknot that allows for tree growth and prevents accidental girdling. Leaving the tape slightly slack allows the roots to develop and support the tree on their own, yet ensures the tree is braced during strong winds.
Each kit has three 10' lengths of tape and three anchors. The standard kit with 15" spike anchors is for trees 3" in diameter or less at about chest height. The heavy-duty kit with large screw anchors is for larger trees. The painted anchors and stakes are made of steel.
