This raised planter is one of the best we've seen. It is solidly constructed, permits a significant amount of growing space and its planting trough is intelligently designed.
The unique V-shape of the trough makes efficient use of soil, letting you grow deep-rooted vegetables towards the center and shallow-rooted herbs and vegetables closer to the sides. As the center of the trough is nearly 16" deep, stakes can be used to support tall or heavy plants. The slats used for the sidewalls are spaced to ensure good drainage and soil aeration, and soil is contained with an included fabric liner. The planter stands about 32" tall, a height that lets you work comfortably whether seated or standing.
All the wooden components are sustainably harvested cedar or fir (depending on supply) and have a food-grade finish. The leg end caps are plastic. With two people, assembly takes about 30 minutes. Instructions and stainless-steel hardware are included. The small planter, about 41" long and 30" wide, provides just under 8 sq.ft. of growing space. The medium planter, at 72" long and 30" wide, provides almost 14 sq.ft. of growing space.
These two covers are tailored to fit snugly on your VegTrug planter. The greenhouse cover traps heat to create a warmer microclimate in your garden and extend your growing season. It is made from clear polyethylene plastic with embedded netting for strength. The frame included with the greenhouse cover is just under 2' tall, providing ample growing room for plants. Made of 5/8" steel tubing with a weather-resistant powder finish, it rests on a lip just inside the VegTrug, and can be attached more permanently with included mounting hardware.
For when the weather gets warmer, the micromesh cover (available separately) protects your plants from birds and insects. With perforations 0.6mm (about 1/32") in size, it lets air, water and sunlight through but keeps most pests out.
Each cover has a double-ended zipper in the middle to let you tend your plants from either side, and attaches to the frame with hook-and-loop fastener ties.
A convenient way to garden. Highly recommended.
