| Dear Customer,
It hardly seems possible that we have been in business 20 years,
and that this is our 20th main catalog. However, a quick glance
in the mirror dispels the wonder and re-establishes reality.
But the lines that show come from an enjoyable journey; the last
two decades have been far more fun than anyone has the right to
expect in any business. To be able to work with good people every
day and sell to honest, rational, cheerful customers, make it
a pleasure to come to work.
I am convinced that woodworkers and gardeners are different from
the average consumer because both activities allow for a lot of
creativity. Not only are people happiest when they are being creative,
but being happy lets them respond to their better instincts. As
a business, we benefit from dealing with happy, creative people.
You are cheeful when you call, and daily we receive upbeat notes
about successes (and sometimes failures) in your activities. All
this is very encouraging to us because we feel appreciated. We
try to respond in kind. Be assured that you are appreciated for
being such decent customers in every respect.
There is only one thing that troubles me. Frequently, customers
say that they have been dealing with us for 25 or 30 years, yet
the company is only 20 years old. I'm not sure that I want to
know why it seems that long to them.
