Used where you want minimum visibility of hinges, or where butt hinges are ineffective, knife hinges are recessed into the cabinet and the edge of a door, instead of the sides.
The different styles of knife hinges move the pivot point for different door styles, and accommodate a variety of door/cabinet combinations.
Straight knife hinges leave the pivot point inside the door and inside the cabinet. Single offset hinges have the pivot inside the door, but outside the cabinet. For double offset hinges, the pivot is outside both. Since pivot hinges rotate 360°, they can be mounted in a variety of orientations.
Generally, straight hinges are used for overlay applications, while single or double offset hinges are used for inset doors. The dowel offset hinges are suitable for smaller or lighter doors. Required door clearance varies, depending on the door thickness, and the location of the hinge. The cabinet leaf is 2" long; pin offsets are 1/2".
All are solid brass, with brass washers (lower hinge only) and steel pivot pins. Straight and dowel offset hinges are unhanded, while single and double offset hinges are handed.
Sold in pairs (one door). Screws not included; they all require #6 screws, except the single offset hinges, which use either #5 or #6 screws.
