| Dear Customer,
For some of you, this will be the 10th autumn that you have received
a Lee Valley catalogue. Anyone who remembers all of the cover
photographs on the back of this catalogue has been a customer
since our first year in the tool business, 1978/79.
Since that first mail order was sent in 1978, we have grown from
5 employees to 75 employees. The catalogue has changed so much
over the years that there is not a single photograph in this catalogue
carried through from '78. Prices have also changed but not all
the price changes have been horrendous. A picture frame clamp
cost $22.75 then (without the speed nuts!). It costs $24.75 today.
Unfortunately, most other price changes have been more painful.
Without trying to give you a swelled head, one thing that has
changed very little is the nature of our customers. Woodworkers
seem to come from the most rational, understanding, cheerful and
honest elements of society. It has been a pleasure to do business
with you over the years.
