1993/94 Catalog Cover   1993/94 Woodworking Customer Letter

Print Catalog Cover

Dear Customer,

A quick count indicates that we have mailed 16 main catalogues and 71 seasonal catalogues since our first mailing in 1978. So, for the 88th time, here is another catalogue!

You will note below that another store has been added to the Lee Valley chain, this one in Calgary. If you happen to be in Calgary any one of the four days from Sept. 29th to Oct. 2nd, 1993, I will cheerfully sharpen a chisel or plane blade for you — not a box full of them, just one! There will be all sorts of sale specials that week and the next, as well as draws for gift certificates, and other rituals of an official store opening. Do come by.

I am temped to disclose that both Lee Valley and Veritas Tools (our sister company) are finalists in a major business awards competition. But I won't because, unfortunately, we are sworn to secrecy about naming the competition or the fact that we are finalists in it. We'll brag about it as soon as bragging is allowed. Meanwhile, I am sure that we can get away with a few broad hints.

And finally, we have six new Veritas products in this catalogue. My favourites are the Scraper Holder (page 23) and the Beading Tool (page 19). All of our new products were shown at the National Hardware Show in Chicago in August and received good reviews. The Scraper Holder was the star of the show. Any number of woodworking magazines prodded it, poked it, and photographed it. The Beading Tool attracted a smaller but equally avid group of fans. For anyone doing reeding, fluting, or cockbeads, nothing can touch it.

I will quit now because this is beginning to sound like one of those nauseous Christmas letters where the sender's family life is idyllic an all the children have become neurosurgeons. The best of luck in your woodworking and I hope that you always get your clamps adjusted before your glue sets.

Yours sincerely,

Leonard G. Lee
President
