Hand made by professional smiths in a small factory in Sweden, Gränsfors tools are a pleasure to use. They have grace, heft and balance that reflect good design and craftsmanship. All are beautifully hand forged and come complete with oiled hickory handles and grain leather sheaths. They are fully honed, ready for use, and come marked with the smith's initials. As they are hand made, the weights and measurements given below may vary slightly.
A. Light and maneuverable, this straight hand adze is used for grooving in log construction, sculpting, boatbuilding, or treen work. It has a 2-1/4" wide face that is bellied to reduce gouging. The head is slightly curved lengthwise for clearance, weighs approximately 1-1/4 lbs and is fitted to a 10" handle that is textured for grip.
B. This well-balanced carpenter's adze has a 3" face that is slightly bellied to prevent the corners from gouging the work when smoothing flat surfaces. It has a 2 lb head and 25" recurved handle for a comfortable, efficient swing.
C. Used similarly to the straight version (item A), the curved hand adze has a 2-3/8" diameter face. The head weighs approximately 1-1/4 lbs and is curved lengthwise for clearance. The 10" handle is textured for grip.
D. Traditionally used to hollow rain gutters from solid wood, gutter adzes have double-curved heads for efficient waste removal on concave work. This one has a face with a 3" diameter curvature on a head gently curved fore to aft. The 2 lb head is fitted to a 25" recurved handle.
The Small Curved Adze is temporarily unavailable.
