While calipers and dividers are among the most useful tools a woodworker can own, they tend to be underused in many workshops today. That's unfortunate, as they serve as a reliable, straightforward means to capture, compare or transfer dimensions.

Once you start working with these tools, you’ll wonder how you got along without them, since any time you can transfer a dimension directly, without converting it into numbers, you avoid a primary source of error.

These are not only well made, but offered at a great price for the set of four. The set includes three 8" tools (a divider plus inside and outside calipers) as well as a second divider in the 6" size.

Of course, with two dividers at hand, you can quickly alternate between paired dimensions as you work, such as when laying out mortises and tenons.

Each tool is carbon steel with tips hardened to Rc54-58; all other components are steel with a black-oxide finish.

The quick-adjust mechanism has a cross-drilled speed nut that slides easily on the rod when the legs are squeezed. When you release the legs, the nut then engages with the threads, holding the setting reliably, while also allowing you to make fine adjustments.
