Arthur Watts (1883-1935) was a particularly talented British artist who sold cartoons to Punch and other contemporary magazines for many years in the 1920s and 30s. The quality of his work is far beyond anything seen today in the genre.

In addition to the numerous illustrated examples of his work, a series of his essays on the art of cartooning, written for The Artist magazine, are included as well as numerous supporting examples of the work of artists whose work he admired. In essence, the book has a mini-course on cartooning embedded in it, in addition to illustrating the gentle humor and substantial artistic skill of Arthur Watts.
