Repairing & Restoring Pendulum Clocks - Woodworking

by John Plewes

A systematic, practical bench manual concerning the complete overhaul and restoration of the movements, dials and cases of old pendulum clocks dating from about 1700 to 1940.

For beginners, there are step-by-step instructions; for the more advanced, there are interesting machines to make, such as a hand-operated chain-making machine and a special chuck to handle awkward arbor repairs. It is a hands-on book in which innovation is favored over old, traditional approaches.

Plewes is a Canadian certified master clockmaker who has taught clock repair. His subjects are the clocks you'll likely inherit, or find at auctions or flea markets, some expensive and others not. All clocks are from five nations: the U.S., Canada, England, France, and Germany.

Softcover, 8" x 10", 224 pages. First printed in 1984; reprinted in 2003.
