Although this weather station has many features, its primary benefit is the thermometer. The easy-to-read liquid crystal display constantly shows current outdoor and indoor temperatures in either Celsius or Fahrenheit; it also records minimum and maximum temperatures, displayed at the touch of a button with date and time of occurrence, making it handy for monitoring frost-tender plants in cold frames or a greenhouse.
The barometer shows changes in air pressure as weather tendency icons (sun, clouds, rain, etc.). The radio-controlled clock receives signals* emitted from the U.S. Atomic Clock in Boulder, Colorado, and automatically calibrates itself daily to ensure accuracy, even updating for Daylight Saving Time.
The unit displays indoor temperature from -10° to 59.9°C (14° to 139.8°F), and outdoor temperature from -39.9° to 59.9°C (-39.8° to 139.8°F). It receives temperature transmissions from up to three outdoor sensors; one is included (with mounting hardware), and has a range of 100m (330').
Set on a tabletop or wall mounted, the weather station operates on four AA alkaline batteries (not included). Useful for the gardener or any avid weather watcher. (La Crosse Technology model #WS-9611U-IT.)
Extra sensors are available for KD316 and the previous model KD308, offered before October 2008.
* The radio signals are detectable throughout the United States (except Alaska and Hawaii) and in most parts of Canada (except the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the Atlantic provinces). For areas where there is no signal detection, this clock operates as a normal clock and requires manual time correction as necessary.
