To warn you of severe weather, this radio detects signals 24 hours a day from climate monitoring centers throughout North America* and issues an immediate alert if hazardous conditions are approaching your region.
It notifies you of over 40 different events ranging from blizzards, thunderstorms and flash freezes to wildfires, hurricanes and civil emergencies. As soon as a watch, warning or advisory is issued, it displays a scrolling message across the screen and flashes a color-coded LED indicator.
In addition, you can choose to receive an audio signal in the form of a voice announcement or 90dB siren for any of the weather alerts. Customizing your settings is easy using the step-by-step manual and following simple prompts on the large LCD screen. A battery backup ensures continuous operation during power outages (requires four AA batteries, not included).
It also functions as a regular AM/FM alarm clock radio (the weather alerts automatically override radio broadcasts). The radio measures approximately 7" x 5-1/2" x 2-1/4" tall and weighs 1 lb (without batteries).
A reliable way to be warned of danger – at home or in an RV, boat or cottage.
* In Canada, the Meteorological Service of Canada provides weather bulletins on the Weatheradio network (www.ec.gc.ca/meteo-weather). In the U.S., weather information is broadcast by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr). Check for availability of service in your area.
