Though seemingly simple, this is a surprisingly challenging puzzle. Consisting of six interlocking rods, it's a reinvention of a centuries-old type of puzzle that is sometimes referred to as a Chinese or burr puzzle (since it resembles a seed burr when complete).
While traditionally made of squared wooden rods, our version uses smooth cylindrical rods, making the puzzle not only more inscrutable but also trickier to assemble. Five of the six 2-1/2" x 5/8" diameter rods have concave notches that interlock with the other rods, which are then secured using the sixth rod.
Made of zinc-plated solid steel, the rods won't warp or shrink over time, ensuring they will continue to fit together precisely. Weighing a substantial 17 oz (480g), the assembled puzzle makes an enigmatic curio on a desk or shelf. Irresistible to pick up; hard to put down.
