If you are joining multiple strips of tape lighting, you may need more connectors and wire than are included in the kits.

Note that outdoor installations or those in wet locations, like shower enclosures, require the use of outdoor-grade connectors and wire, in addition to outdoor-grade lighting. Color-controlled lighting generally requires the use of four-conductor wire. The exception is the run of wire between the power supply and the color controller, where two-conductor wire is sufficient.

A. Splice connector: used to join two light strips for a continuous run of lighting.

B. Wire lead connector: indoor use only; for running tape light around a corner, or to connect adjacent strips. You can cut the wire in half, producing two wire leads with connectors that can be joined with a length of wire, useful when extending power wires or connecting tape light in another area.

C. Outdoor/wet locations wire-ready connector: used to make secure connections between electrical wire and outdoor LED tape lighting, this connector has a snap-closure at one end to accept tape lighting; we recommend sealing this joint with shrink tube. The input end has a factory-sealed connection to a 10" length of 20 gauge wire rated for outdoor/wet location use.

D. Wire support clip: a simple wire holder with an adhesive backing. Does not work with the outdoor four-conductor wire.

Four-conductor wire: required for connections involving color-controlled lighting, color-controller to lights and light to light.

E. - F. 22 gauge stranded four-conductor indoor-rated wire: supplied in a 26.2' (8m) roll in standard ribbon and in-wall rated formats. Flat ribbon wire is for use only in applications where the wires will not be hidden inside a wall.

G. 18 gauge stranded four-conductor wire: supplied as a 26.2' (8m) roll. Rated for indoor and in-wall use; a good choice to reduce voltage drop when using longer runs of wire. You can generally run about twice the length of 18-gauge compared to 22-gauge wire. For example, if your 60 LEDs per metre tape is 12' long, the maximum wire length from the light strip to the power supply is 10' using 22-gauge or 20' using 18-gauge.

H. Solid-core outdoor-rated wire: supplied in a 26.2' (8m) roll. The 20 gauge four-conductor wire may be preferred by those that choose to solder the connections between tape lighting and wire. Rated for indoor/outdoor application and direct burial.

Two-conductor wire: for color-controlled lighting, two-conductor wire can be used only to connect the power supply to the color controller. All other wiring connections involving color-controlled lighting require four-conductor wire.

J. - K. Two-Conductor In-wall Wire, 26.2' (8m): in-wall rated, stranded wire supplied as a 26.2' (8m) roll. The 18 gauge two-conductor wire is well suited for connecting the power supply and color controller. The 22 gauge two-conductor is suitable for short wire runs. Rated for indoor/outdoor application and direct burial.

L. 14 gauge stranded, two-conductor outdoor-rated wire: supplied as a 26.2' (8m) roll. Suitable for direct burial. A good choice to minimize voltage drop over long runs, outdoor, outdoor buried or indoor. Its two-conductor format restricts its compatibility with color-controlled lighting to long runs between the power supply and the color controller.

M. Solid-core outdoor-rated wire: supplied in a 26.2' (8m) roll. The 18 gauge two-conductor wire is well suited for connecting the power supply and color controller. Rated for indoor/outdoor application and direct burial.

N. Screw terminal block for indoor use: for secure connection of wiring, these four-pin blocks accept wires from 14 to 22 gauge. A block can be cut in half to create two 2-pin blocks. Block can be surface mounted using a brad or small screw.

O. Shrink tube: used for outdoor or wet location installations to seal splice and wire-to-tape lighting connections or tape ends that have been cut, it provides electrical insulation and water resistance. When heated to about 110°C/230°F with a heat gun or torch, it shrinks by up to half its diameter and coats its content with a sealant, forming a snug jacket around wiring connections.

P. Crimped butt connector: used to create an outdoor-rated, solder-free connection between two pieces of 18 or 20 gauge wire. Without need of a heat gun, a sealant within the connector coats the wire leads as they enter it; simply crimp the connector to secure the joint.

Q. Silicone-filled wire nuts: used to seal wire connections. Suitable for direct burial.

R. Small wire nuts: for light-gauge wire: used to help secure and protect indoor wire connections, these threaded nuts are suitable for use with 16 to 22 gauge wire.
