Choosing the wattage of a power supply is determined by the length of tape lighting being used, its LED density and how the lighting will be configured. A straight-run layout uses single or multiple strips in series powered only at one end of the LED strip. A center-feed layout powers two equal legs of tape lighting from a central position; a loop-back layout has both ends of the LED tape powered simultaneously. For array layouts, where several unequal lengths of tape are to be powered from one end, consult the chart below.

Based on full-power brightness, the lengths shown in the chart are totals for LED tape lighting; do not include connecting wires in your calculations. Exceeding these lengths will cause LEDs farthest from the power supply to appear dimmer due to voltage drop. A power supply capable of higher current delivery will not reduce the impact of voltage drop.

A.–D. Non-Dimmable Power Supplies
Used for common installations, each comes prewired with a 60" (1.5m) AC cord with plug end for use in a standard 120V outlet. The 12V DC output is equipped with a color-coded red/black wire connected to a removable terminal block for connection to your LED tape lights. If an LED dimmer switch is used with these power supplies, it is always connected between the power supply and the LED tape lights.

E. Dimmable Transformer
This 60-watt, 12-volt DC output transformer lets you use a hardwired magnetic low-voltage dimmer switch (see tech link below for a listing of compatible Lutron and Levitron dimmers) to control the brightness of white LED strip lighting. Suitable for existing or new construction, the transformer is designed to be wired directly to your home's 120V power supply and placed between a magnetic low-voltage dimmer and an LED strip. The magnetic dimmer is then used to control the brightness of the LED strips. For safety, it has auto-reset breakers on both the input and output. Casing is steel. cETLus listed, it comes with a wiring guide and a 5-year warranty.

Made in USA. Not for use with RGB lighting.

Calculate each leg's wattage requirement separately, then add together for the total watts needed for your array. Select a power supply that exceeds the total watts needed.

Example:

Leg 1 is 5' of 30 LEDs = 4W
Leg 2 is 10' of 30 LEDs = 8W
Leg 3 is 5' of 30 LEDs = 4W
