Beginner Bonsai (Ages 12 and Up)

Bonsai is an art form that uses design principles and sound horticultural practices to train small trees in shallow pots so that they take on the appearance, expression and even the feeling of a tree in a natural environment, all the while remaining true to scale. Join members of the Bonsai Society of Winnipeg for a session on this art form. You will be given a tamarack tree to style, and established bonsai specimens will be used for demonstration and act as visual aids in the discussion of how they are collected, styled, developed, and maintained. Time, patience and long-term vision are required for bonsai, but we know you will want to try your hand at some of these techniques. You will go home with your own tree ready to be cared for and nurtured at home, as well as information and ideas on how to get started at this art form.
Fee: $50.00

The Bonsai Society of Winnipeg was organized in the early 1980s by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to get together to share their experiences, to learn from each other, to pool their resources, and to enjoy the companionship of others with a common interest. The club has grown over the years into a more formal organization and takes part in many official events in the city. However, the purpose and the approach to bonsai continue to be the same: we learn by sharing our experience and pooling our resources. For more information, visit www.bonsaiwinnipeg.ca
