Graham Wilkinson first became interested in marquetry in England at the age of 14 when he saw the work of a family friend, though he didn’t have the chance to pursue the craft until he came to Canada. In 2008, he joined the Marquetry Society of Canada. He has been teaching marquetry at monthly meetings of the society and other venues since 2010. Conrad Fernandes was born in Ethiopia and also lived in India and the Middle East, where marquetry is widely practised. After moving to Canada in 1989, Conrad began to attend wood shows, as he enjoys carpentry as a hobby. The Marquetry Society was at most of those shows, and he finally decided to attend one of the marquetry meetings in 2008; it was the best thing he ever did. Marquetry can be a picture on a wall or a finishing touch to a piece of furniture that elevates it to another level. Conrad has been teaching marquetry since 2010 at monthly meetings and various wood shows. He also takes an active part in teaching members in the mentoring program.
