Beginner Carving: a Soapstone Bear
       Friday, September 29 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
and Saturday, September 30, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
 
Soapstone is easy to work and polishes like a gem. During this workshop Jean Bachynsky will teach the basics of carving and polishing soapstone using rasps, files and sandpaper. You will choose their piece of soapstone from an assortment of roughly cut shapes. Jean will assist and encourage all to discover the bear hidden in the stone. All tools and materials will be provided.
Fee: $115.00
 
 
Jean Bachynsky is a B.F.A. (Bachelor of Fine Arts) with a major in sculpture. After teaching art in Shaftesbury High School for many years, she now devotes her time to her own stone sculpture art. Jean is a member of the Manitoba Institute of Sculptors, where she both works on her sculptures and teaches. She has also taught stone carving in Mesa, Arizona. Jean has exhibited her work at many venues, and is represented in both private and corporate collections.

Unless otherwise stated, previous experience is not required to participate
in seminars and attendees should be 16 years old or older.
Seminar tickets are not available online.
Beverages are provided at our seminars and a light
sandwich lunch is provided at all-day events.
Please discuss any special dietary needs
with the staff at time of registration.
In an effort to reduce waste, we encourage you to bring in
your own coffee mug and/or refillable water bottle.
We require that you wear closed shoes
(e.g. running shoes) to all seminars.
