Beginner Carving
Saturday, January 20, 9:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
or  Thursday, March 15, 9:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Make a relief carving and a 3-D sculpture in basswood with John Paterson. As you carve, you will learn about the makeup of wood and the suitability of some woods for carving. The uses and limitations of various carving tools will be discussed, with special attention on the skew chisel and small gouges. John will demonstrate various cuts and describe their applications. You will have time to practise before working on the two projects. All tools and materials supplied.
Fee: $90.00

John Paterson's love of wood and carving started at an early age. From his first carving at a YMCA camp, to native art and archaeology studies at university, to the study and carving of Noh Theatre Masks in Japan, John's hands have never been far from wood. When not carving, John can be found at his Taig lathe, creating beautiful objects from wood. He is an employee of Lee Valley Tools.
