Oriental poppy

Our new web photographer, Elena Bowell, shot this gorgeous orange poppy. She jumped at the chance to soak up some sunrays—after a very long Canadian winterand take in the views of some lovely Ottawa, Ontario, gardens.

Judging from the photograph, our guess is that this unidentified beauty is an Oriental poppy (Papaver orientale). These hardy plants bloom in late spring and early summer, and are best known for their showy blooms.
