What Is It?
Iron fork, spade fork or turnip fork
This fork-like tool measures just over 2 ft. and features long flat tines. It was recently purchased at auction in France. On its label are the French words, "Acier Fondu", which roughly translates to "cast steel". Underneath this phrase are the initials L.F.

Similar-looking tools found in reference materials are called by various names, such as iron fork, spade fork and turnip fork. The tool was likely used for harvesting root crops, such as beets and turnips, or for rogueing out diseased plants in potato crops.
