Corn Mazes: A Fun Autumn Excursion

  Corn maze
The entrance to the "Maize Maze"

At the end of the season, no cob is wasted; a nearby cattle farmer harvests the grain for his cows. "This really is a green attraction," says Mr. Saunders.

There are fantastic corn mazes across the continent. The one at Cool Patch Pumpkins in Dixon, California, holds the Guinness World Record for the largest corn maze at 40 acres. This year, they've even increased the size to 45 acres.

Some corn mazes are more challenging than others. Some offer benches to rest on if you're tired; some provide bubbles and toys for children to play with if they lose interest in finding their way out; some farms will offer directions you can listen to on cassette tape, while others give cell phone directives. One thing they all share is that when it comes to having autumn fun, corn mazes are nothing short of amazing!
