Using Plow Planes

Third, if there's provision for it, fit a deeper fence face. The greater surface area running against the edge of the work will increase accuracy and allow you to apply pressure lower down using your non-working hand. This helps to keep the plane upright. Occasionally, you may find the work is such that the deeper fence fouls the bench top. In this case, you'll have to do without it, but otherwise, it's worth training your muscle memory while you're still practising. If you need some extra help, you can fit an upright indicator (such as a piece of dowel) into a hole in the fence face; this exaggerates any deviation from the vertical.

Increased accuracy

To increase accuracy, use a deep fence with a vertical indicator.
