Assembly
Cut all the pieces indicated in the list above. Use a table saw or a router to cut a 3/4" wide x 3/8" deep dado along the length of each leg. The bottom of the dado should be 2" above the bottom of the leg. Glue and clamp the top to the substrate. The ends should be even, and the edges of the top should overhang the substrate by 1-1/4".

Glue the shelf into the dados in the legs and glue the substrate between the tops of the legs. Clamp everything together so that the legs are square to the top. You can use nails or screws if you put them where they won't interfere with the 3/4" holes.

The top has two lines of equally spaced, 3/4" diameter holes. Each line of holes is centered 1-3/4" from the edge of the top. The center of the first hole is 3" from the end. Each succeeding hole is 3-1/2" on center from the previous one. The two lines of holes are 5-1/2" apart, center to center. The holes clear the leg by 1/8". Mark this pattern for the holes on the top. Put a 3/4" brad-point drill bit in your drill press and drill the holes all the way through the shelf.
