This is an excellent hollower for medium to large vessels.
The result of ten years of design trial and error, its articulating cutter head is usable alone or variably combined with the short 1-1/4" straight linkage and the longer 2-3/4" curved linkage. This versatility allows the hollower to manage a large range of vessel shapes and sizes and to reach difficult areas such as the inside shoulders of semi-enclosed forms.
The cutter head has an adjustable hood over the circular high-speed steel cutter (supplied with three cutters, one installed and two extra) to control the depth of cut — open for heavy hogging to near closed for fine shear cuts. When dull, the circular cutter is simply rotated to reveal a fresh edge. A jig is included to help hold the small cutters against the grinding wheel for sharpening.
The 5/8" diameter steel tool shaft is just over 16-1/2" long, allowing substantial reach into deep vessels. The hollow aluminum handle has a molded grip for comfort and measures about 19-1/2" long by 1-1/2" in diameter. Ballast, such as lead shot, can be added for greater vibration absorption and stability. The tool shaft secures with a ball-knob screw that, when aligned with the cutter head, provides a visual reference of the cutter position within the hollow form. The cutter head and arm linkages are stainless steel.
Made in New Zealand. Includes instructions. A superb tool for hollow-form work.
