Mail-order special buy. Limited stock.
When buying products for some of our specials, we come across items that wouldn’t normally be thought of for woodworking applications. From a medical supply company, these non-sterile gauze pads (called sponges on the package) are all lint-free, making them well suited for finishing applications.
The small 2" square or 3" square cotton pads are often seen in first aid kits, used with tape as a small bandage or for cleaning. For finishing, they could be used to apply stains to smaller projects or detail work, or for applying turner’s polish to pen blanks. Pads are about 2" x 2" or 3" x 3", loose weave 12-ply, with a textured surface. The 2" square size is available in a bulk package of 200 pads or a box of 100 individually wrapped. The 3" square size is sold as a box of 100 individually wrapped.
The thicker 4" x 8" cotton pad (nominal size, about 8" x 15" unfolded) comes in a bulk package of 200 pads. The closely woven, smooth texture makes it suitable for applying wipe-on varnish, oils or stains.
Due to the limited quantities, pads are not stocked at our retail stores, but can be ordered for pick-up at our stores.
