Charles Davis was a student of naval architecture and design, as well as a long-distance and racing sailor. Sailing Vessel Silhouettes will appeal to lovers of the sea and ships, who will recognize and marvel at the range of vessel types. Though the author suggests dismembering the book to frame the silhouettes or use them on lampshades, the information contained on the pages is reason enough to buy it. Smyth-sewn softcover, 6" x 9", 116 pages. First published in 1929.

How Sails Are Made and Handled gathers a wealth of knowledge on how boats and sails are made and how they work in all wind conditions. Davis covers the sail materials of his day, the care of sails, the various sail designs and how they differ. As valuable today as it was a hundred years ago, his superb advice on reacting to weather, wind patterns and land forms as they affect racing could make the difference between winning a regatta and dragging in with the last half. Smyth-sewn softcover, 4-3/4" x 6", 155 pages. First published in 1922.

Both books were reprinted in 2006 as part of our Classic Reprint Series.
