Overshot Water Wheels for Small Streams | edited by Leonard G. Lee

The core of this book is a 1920s catalog of the Fitz Water Wheel Company.
The founder of the company, John Fitz, did much to popularize this style of wheel in the late 1800s by improving its efficiency, making it the most efficient of any of the water wheel styles. The design is ideally suited to small streams of variable flow and the catalog has many photos of installations as well as practical advice regarding effective use.
Also incorporated in the book are extracts from a 1902 hydraulics text that deals extensively with assessing water wheel efficiency and production potential. All this is of particular interest to those who dream of gaining a new measure of independence by either getting off the power grid or substantially reducing their dependence on it.
Smyth-sewn softcover, 152 pages, 8" x 5-1/2". Reprinted in 2004 as part of our Classic Reprint Series. |
