The author's garden tool first aid kit is obviously
well used. |

What
You Need |
|
| |
| |
1.
A good container to hold everything |
| |
- I use a two-gallon/eight-liter plastic nursery pot
with a big lip on it. I cut slits and holes in the
edge and insert S-hooks to hold other items. I put
the pot inside a handled pail, which makes carrying
easy, and I can fill the pail with soapy water if
needed.

Cleanup items |
| |
- Wire brush for aggressively removing crusted-on
rust.
- Medium-grit foam sponge sander for removing rust
between fork and rake tines and for flat and rounded
surfaces.
- Coarse (80) and medium (120) grit sandpaper for
removing tough rust spots.
- Scotch-Brite scouring pads (a selection of coarse,
medium and fine.)
- Small-handled dish mop for removing heavy, sticky
dirt.
- Nylon scrubber for removing dried or caked-on dirt.
- Nylon-bristled tub brush with handgrip for hard
scrubbing.
- Vegetable scrub brush for getting dirt out of crevices
and cracks in handles and rakes.
- Cotton rag or washcloth.
- Sponge covered in nylon netting (for a better fit
in smaller hands, cut it in half and sew up the end.)
- Nail brush (for getting dirt off you!)
- Two edging paint pads for applying motor oil to
metal parts or for putting double-boiled linseed oil
on wood.
- WD-40 for lubricating moving parts.
