Our previous issue (volume 3, issue 2) featured an article on growing
ornamental vegetables, in which the author recommended growing
Hyacinth beans (Dolichos lablab) for both ornamental and eating
purposes.
It has been brought to our attention that this plant contains a naturally occurring toxic compound.
This compound, cyanogenic glucoside, is also found in apple
seeds, peach and apricot pits and various other produce. Consumed
in large quantities, the compound is considered toxic.
As a result, we have opted to err on the side of caution and have removed the reference
from the article. |
