A
ball of string fits between the two halves of this Victorian
string holder and is removed by twisting them until they come
apart. The string is fed through one of two holes, depending
on its thickness. A tab on the top allows the holder to be
hung in a convenient spot.
This
is the model for our own version of string holder (01K26.90).
While our model is cast from steel, the original is made from
more brittle cast iron (the fact that the bottom half broke
in two shows just how brittle).
