| The
particular saw shown here displays the etching,
"KEEN KUTTER," and the inserted name for
the parent company, "E.C.Simmons". The
Keen Kutter brand was the trademark of the Simmons
Hardware Company of St. Louis, Missouri. It was
first used as a trademark in 1870, on the company's
first-quality tools and products. The Shapleigh
Hardware Company, also of St. Louis, bought the
company in 1940, and the Keen Kutter trademark was
altered by the insertion of the word "Shapleigh's"
in place of "E.C.Simmons". |

| The
Shapleigh Company ceased trading in 1960. The logo was
used by various companies until being discontinued in
the 1990s. The Keen Kutter trademark is currently privately
held. The trading of items with this trademark is a popular
hobby with some of today's antique collectors. |
