In fact, this display tool and other associated accessories
were only a small part of the transportation industry
before the horseless carriage became popular. Many business
schools study this particular segment of manufacturing
as an example of manufacturers' refusal to change once
new technology became affordable to the public. It has
been suggested that some in the whip-making industry regarded
the automobile as a passing fad. Also, some whip manufacturers
continued to ignore declining sales, leading to eventual
closure and bankruptcy.
