Toss the Numerical Calculations
If you are more of a fan of geometry than algebra, you might want to try a different method that yields the same level of accuracy, without having to resort to a calculator.

Define the centerline.
First, mark the length of the arc you want to cut (points A and B). Set the compass length at approximately 3/4 of the distance between A and B. Draw intersecting arcs from A and B to define the centerline (the radius).

Mark the height of the arc.
Mark the height of the arc at C, above the edge of the board.
