Mortise & Tenon Magazine, Issue 2 - Woodworking
edited by Joshua A. Klein

This annual magazine celebrates the preservation, research and restoration of historic furniture. Its multi-disciplinary approach brings together the perspectives of furniture makers, conservators and scholars to span woodworking past and present, with focus on pre-industrial tools and methodology. This much-anticipated second issue contains a detailed study of an 18th century drop-leaf table, and Christopher Schwarz’s insights into a Roman-era workbench. Joshua Kline gives an in-depth account of reproducing an 18th century banister-back chair, and Donald C. Williams offers a primer on furniture conservation.

This issue also includes an interview with chairmakers David and George Sawyer, as well as contributions by George Walker, Zachary Dillinger, Peter Follansbee and others. Printed on heavy stock paper and generously illustrated with color photographs, it is more like a book than a typical magazine. Sold as a single issue, not a subscription. A reference that will appeal equally to woodworkers and anyone interested in the history of furniture.

Softcover, 144 pages, 2016.
