Make Wooden Shaker Boxes
       Friday, March 8, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
and Saturday, March 9, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Traditionally used to store tea, herbs and sewing sundries, these oval boxes typify Shaker design, graceful and functional with clean lines. The boxes are made from specially prepared cherry side band material, quarter-cut stock for the box tops and bottoms, plus wooden pegs and copper fasteners. This workshop will lead you as you shape and bevel the swallowtail fingers, bend the sides and use the unique fasteners to hold your boxes together. All tools and materials supplied.
Fee: $100.00

Brad Kleinsasser has been woodworking most of his life. He has over thirty years of woodturning experience, making all sorts of items including bowls, pens and open spirals from a variety of materials. His experience in multi-axis turning includes various techniques, both with spindle and faceplate work. He is a member of the Woodturners Association of Manitoba. In addition to woodturning, he practices pyrography, leather craft and furniture building.

Paul Collard began turning wood as a teenager after his father brought home a lathe for their workshop. Paul graduated from civil engineering but left that profession to do what he loved best, working with wood. He began selling his turnings on the craft show circuit in Ontario and Ohio. In the early 1980s, Paul received a number of awards for his work in artistic bowl turning. He owned a full-time pen-turning business for a few years and has tutored people in turning pens and bowls in his workshop, and has also built custom-made furniture. Paul is an employee of Lee Valley Tools.
