The Woodbook | by Klaus Ulrich Leistikow
This product is no longer available.
This beautiful book is based on a 14-volume collection of actual samples of woods of the United States, assembled by Romeyn Hough from 1888 to 1913. An original set has been photographed in stunningly accurate color and detail.
For each tree, 345 species in all, three different cross sections are shown – radial, tangential and horizontal. Entries are organized alphabetically by botanical family, then by genus. Accompanying the photographs is modern text in English, German and French, describing the tree's appearance, its habitat, its wood and its uses, together with detailed lithographs of its leaf, flower and fruit structure.
A heavy book, it comes in a thick cardboard slipcase for protection.
Woods are indexed by both Latin and common names, making it a superb gift for either the book collector or the wood collector.
Hardcover in a slipcase, 7" × 10", 800 pages, 2007. |
