Treasures of the Reford Gardens

by Alexander Reford

Discontinued. Limited stock.

In a follow-up to The Reford Gardens – Elsie’s Paradise (2004), the author continues the story of the magnificent gardens in Grand-Métis, Québec, created nearly a century ago by his great-grandmother, Elsie Reford. He highlights a selection of her favorite plants from among the hundreds she collected and cultivated and which she mentioned frequently in her garden diaries and other writings.

Reford provides historical and horticultural background for plants ranging from the exotic blue poppy and alpine gentian to native woodland ferns and orchids, including varieties of roses, lilies, peonies, primroses, azaleas, crabapple and bloodroot.

The engaging text is supplemented with profiles of significant figures in horticulture of the time, period images and Louise Tanguay’s superb color photographs as well as growing tips to inspire today’s gardeners.

Softcover, 8 1/2" × 8 1/2", 180 pages, 2006. Also available in a French edition.
