Wooden Hong Kong-Style Trim Planes

These are beautifully made small hardwood trim planes. Both have solid 3mm thick HSS blades bedded at about 60°, secured with hardwood wedges. The removable through-handle affords a comfortable grip for one-handed use. Often used for knocking corners off boards, or for bevelling long edges, these are surprisingly useful in the shop. Great value, as they’re actually more difficult to manufacture than their larger cousins.

With the exception of the machine-mortised throat, these planes are shaped and finished by hand. The mouths are set farther back in the body than European wooden planes, affording a more positive registration on the wood being planed. The blades can be adjusted with judicious use of a mallet or hammer.

The 100mm long plane is 33mm wide with a 22mm blade and a 43mm toe. The 120mm long plane is 40mm wide with a 30mm blade and a 52mm toe.
