A quarterly publication celebrating the art and craft of woodworking by hand, Quercus features the voices of craftspeople and makers from around the world. Named for the genus to which oak belongs, the magazine highlights workmanship and design, woodworking techniques, tools and traditions spanning the centuries.

In this issue, Rex Krueger shares how he makes simple and inexpensive wooden planes that incorporate a chisel in place of a normal plane blade, Michelle Mateo describes the tools and techniques she has discovered for turning bowls on a bungee-cord-powered lathe, and Pete Moore discusses the benefits of creative woodworking as an aspect of early childhood education.

In a news and reviews section introduced in this issue, an interview with Claire Minihan reveals how she came to be the preferred travisher maker of many respected chairmakers, and Nick Gibbs compares the various sharpening guides to be found in print and on the web.
