A quarterly publication celebrating the art and craft of woodworking by hand, Quercus features the voices of craftspeople and makers from around the world. Named for the genus to which oak belongs, the magazine highlights workmanship and design, woodworking techniques, tools and traditions spanning the centuries.

This issue features the first of editor Nick Gibbs’ two-part interview with woodworker, author and instructor Paul Sellers, who reflects on his career spanning an early furniture-making apprenticeship to his more recent ventures teaching woodworking techniques and demonstrating projects online.

Mary Lewis explains ongoing research into heritage crafts that are at risk of being lost to future generations.

Designer and sculptor Misti Leitz reflects on winning a televised woodworking competition, and contest finalist Radha Sivyer explains his design for a rocking chair inspired by low Japanese chairs. Charles Mak covers various marking systems for orienting assembly components, Germán Peraire shows how to make a through-wedged mortise and tenon joint, and Ethan Sincox builds a presentation box for a block plane from English boxwood and ancient bog oak.
