Tin-Can Projects and Art-Metal Work

par Joseph J. Lukowitz

Offert en anglais seulement

The great value of this book is less in the specific projects than in the techniques used to make them. When it was written in the 1930s, unemployment was at an all-time high and money was scarce. Self-sufficiency was not only desirable but necessary, so people made things they could not afford to buy.

In today’s world where schools have eliminated most manual-skill shops, many people do not know how to make anything in a home shop. This book is a manual of sheet-metal working, not only showing how to make many things but also how to make the simple jigs needed for basic work. A typical example is the process of making a metal sleeve on page 46. You immediately realize you could do it.

Whatever you might want to make from sheet metal (a funnel, a seed scoop, a squirrel guard, etc.), whether or not the plans are here, the techniques are. Smyth-sewn softcover, 6" × 8 1/2", 144 pages. First published in 1936. Reprinted in 2006 and 2020 as part of our Classic Reprint Series.
