Color Temperature
The color temperature of light is expressed as a number on the kelvin (K) scale. Essentially, the lower the number, the more the light will appear reddish-orange (warm); the higher the number, the more the light will appear bluish-white (cool). For comparison, a candle flame has a color temperature of about 1800K (warm), indoor office lighting is about 4000K (natural/neutral) and sunlight is about 6000K (cool). Our LED lights come in two variations of white (warm or natural) and a color-controlled version.

Warm White: color temperature of about 3000K. Provides elegant indirect lighting. Complements wood tones and enriches colors. Used to promote relaxation.
Natural White: color temperature of approximately 4000K. Ideal for task and accent lighting. Imparts a bright, clean and lively modern look. Used where attention to detail is required.
Color Controlled: produces an endless array of colors for dramatic and creative lighting. The RGB+W LED lights have a 3000K white light in addition to the red, green and blue LEDs.

Bright: 30 LEDs per metre (9 LEDs per foot)
Delivers about 400 lumens per metre at full intensity.
Well suited for decorative lighting (e.g., above cabinets, in coves or on tray ceilings) where ambience is the primary purpose of the lighting.

Brighter: 60 LEDs per metre (18 LEDs per foot)
Delivers about 800 lumens per metre at full intensity.
A good all-around solution for accent lighting and lower brightness task lighting (e.g., under cabinets or toe-kick areas). Provides brighter illumination and a more seamless glow.

Brightest: 120 LEDs per metre (36 LEDs per foot)
Delivers about 950 lumens per metre at full intensity (white tape lighting only).
Provides a brightness level suitable for task lighting. Also useful for accent lighting to be installed close to an adjacent surface, since the high LED density provides the most seamless illumination (no hot spots).
Tip:
Our white LED lights require 12V power supplies and are not compatible with our color-controlled RGB+W LED lights, which require 24V power supplies. Please check product descriptions for information about compatibility.

We offer a selection of DC switches, dimmers and controllers that can be connected after a 12V DC standard power supply. The switches can be mounted to a wall to operate like a traditional designer-style light switch, or converted to a small hand-held unit. All RGB+W LED tape lighting requires a color controller to blend the red, green, blue and white LED colors into a custom color. We offer a selection of controllers that work on either radio frequency, or through a Wi-Fi based app on your smartphone, allowing you to adjust brightness and hue, switch between colored and white light, or apply various lighting effects such as strobe or fade.

12V for white LED lights
The white LED lights operate on 12 volts DC, so household installations require a power supply to convert standard 120 volt AC electrical power to 12 volt DC power.
You can simply plug a 12V DC standard power supply into a household AC outlet. For tape lighting, the power requirement is determined by the wiring configuration, the LED density (the number of LEDs per metre) of your chosen lighting, and the length of lighting.
24V for Colour-Controlled LED lights
Intended for use with a standard 120V AC household outlet, the 24-volt power supplies include safety features to automatically shut off in case of lighting overload, open circuits, short circuits, overheating or other faults. An integrated microprocessor adjusts to the electrical load to optimize dimming performance. The wattage needed depends on the size and design of the LED installation; use a power supply equal to or greater than the wattage of the total number of lights at full brightness.
The 24W, 36W and 60W power supplies are meant for indoor use in dry areas. The 100W and 200W power supplies are suitable for use indoors or out, and for wet locations.

While the only tools needed for installing the tape lighting are a flathead screwdriver, wire strippers and ordinary scissors, it may be necessary to modify cabinets and other installation locations to route wires or create valences for indirect lighting. The tools below are well suited to help with those tasks.
