These anodized aluminum face plates are an excellent alternative to cast iron. Machined accurately and drilled with eight screw holes for secure mounting, the plates are ideal for green wood use as they will not rust or transfer stains. Softer than steel, they also reduce tool damage from accidental contact while turning.
Each plate (Shopsmith excepted) has a perimeter hole for a tommy bar (available separately) to aid removal. For quick identification purposes, the plates are color coded to differentiate spindle size, a feature handy for those with multiple lathes.
Best suited for smaller turnings; we recommend steel plates for large stock. The center markers are used to guide initial face plate mounting and provide a positive reference for tailstock positioning. The stainless-steel centering pin, included with the center marker but also available separately, doubles as a tommy bar for face plate removal.
Face plates made in the USA, center markers and centering pin/tommy bar made in Canada.
