First published in 1908, this was a remarkable book for its day, since it had four-color illustrations throughout its 312 pages. A large-format book at 11" x 8-1/4", it is laid out with the description of the flowers on the page facing the illustrations (included is one illustration by artist Maud Humphrey, the mother of screen legend Humphrey Bogart).
The 288 plates are numbered and are easily referenced by an index at the back listing both common and Latin names. There is a small amount of general text but the emphasis is on text specific to each flower, all written in the charming style of the day.
