How to Make a Cedar-Strip Canoe or Boat
Friday, February 9, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

If you have thought about building a cedar-strip canoe or boat but don't know how to start, this session is ideal for you. Following the Cosine Wherry design, David Youngson will present a general overview of building procedures, tool requirements and wood selection, and will discuss topics from layout to launch. Bring your questions and concerns.
Fee: $80.00

At 5 years old, David Youngson built a toy cart out of a wooden mandarin orange box. That started his lifelong passion for woodworking. Growing up with wooden lake boats inspired his later interest in boatbuilding. An architect by profession, David tried his hand as a shipwright and built his first boat, a Cosine Wherry. He has since helped to build a 22' Stancraft mahogany Gentleman's Racer and most recently restored a 1954 12' wooden lake boat, christened LIL MISS CANADA, and gifted it to his son. This story was published in Wooden Boat Magazine in October 2016. David designs and builds a variety of wooden projects, from original whirligig designs, children's "no nails/no glue" birdhouse kits, and his Adirondog chair, currently sold in U.S. outlets.
