| Information Collection and Use |
| |
The information on this site is used only
by Lee Valley Tools Ltd. We value our customers too much to jeopardize our
relationship with them. Information is gathered at several points on our Web
site from our customers, but, much like being a customer on our catalog mailing
list, our Internet customers do not have to worry about information being sold,
shared or rented to others. Users will not get onto any Internet mailing lists
because they shopped online at Lee Valley Tools. |
|
| Registration |
| |
Choice of a display currency is the only
piece of information initially required to browse any of the 7000+ products on
our Web site. Should you wish to purchase online, you have the choice of
shopping as a guest user or registering with us. When you register, we will
provide you with a password-secured customer login that can be used for
subsequent visits or for order inquiry purposes. |
|
| Ordering |
| |
We require some basic information to
process your order. Billing and shipping information is requested along with
payment information. Credit card numbers and expiration dates are required for
billing purposes, but are not saved on our Web site. Contact information, such
as e-mail address and phone number, is used only to confirm your order or for
contact purposes should we have trouble processing an order. We neither solicit
by telephone nor release this information to other companies. |
|
| Cookies |
| |
A cookie is a small data file stored on
your computer's hard drive that contains information relating to your visit to
our site such as currency selection and shopping cart contents. When you leave
and then return to our site, this information is recalled to improve the
shopping experience. For example, if there was an interruption while browsing
the Internet, your shopping cart selections would still be available, in the
currency you had selected, the next time you connected to our site. |
|
| E-mail |
| |
Once you have placed an order, we will send you an e-mail confirming receipt of
your order. You will also receive a second e-mail once your order has been
shipped from our warehouse. At no time will Lee Valley Tools Ltd. use e-mail to
solicit our customers.
We do encourage customers to
e-mail us their questions or comments. We read and respond to all the
e-mails we receive. In cases where a customer shares useful information and we
would like to share it with other customers, we will do so only with the
customer's authorization and without directly identifying the customer.
|
|
| Sharing |
| |
We use outside delivery services to ship
orders and a credit card processing company to bill customers for goods and
services. These companies do not retain, share, store or use personally
identifiable information for any secondary purposes. If you ever have a problem
with billing or shipping, you should contact us directly and we will resolve
the problem with you. |
|
| Security |
| |
At Lee Valley Tools, we have taken every precaution to protect our users'
information. When users submit sensitive information via the Web site, their
information is protected both online and off line.
When our registration/order form asks you to enter sensitive information, such
as credit card number, that information is encrypted and is protected with
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). This Web protocol uses a private key to encrypt
data that is transferred over a secure connection between our servers and your
(client) machine. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon
on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet
Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to unlocked (or open) when you are just
"surfing". To learn more about SSL, visit
www.verisign.com.
While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do
everything in our power to protect customer-information off line. All of our
customers' information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is
restricted to employees who need the information for their specific duties.
Furthermore, ALL employees are kept up to date on our security and privacy
practices. Finally, the servers on which we store personally identifiable
information are kept in a secure environment, here at Lee Valley - we host our
own Web site.
|
|
| Notification of Changes |
| |
We will post changes to our Privacy Policy on our homepage so our customers are
always aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what
circumstances, if any, we disclose it.
Should Lee Valley Tools Ltd. decide to use personal information in any manner
different from that stated at the time of collection, we would contact
customers via e-mail to obtain consent for the proposed new use. Any individual
has the right to refuse to give consent for use of their personal information
for a purpose other than that which was originally stated.
