Turned from solid brass, they are corrosion resistant, have well-defined internal threads, and are straightforward to install using either a bolt with a jam nut or an insert nut driver. Insert nuts are an excellent option for thinner material, where a wood screw would not afford sufficient holding power or may induce material splitting.
